About me
My name is Hans Meier and I was born in Johannesburg in 1946. After attending the German school in Hillbrow I joined the South African Police and served as a permanent member for 3 years. I then studied Optometry. After qualifying as a Optometrist I did a number of locums around South Africa and Rhodesia(now Zimbabwe). I married Sharon Forsdick in 1975 and settled down in Rustenburg where I became a partner in a practice. We have 3 children.
My programming career started on the Sinclair ZX80 and I progressed from there through the ranks to Visual Basic. When Microsoft discontinued support for the old Visual Basic a year or so ago and replaced it with VB.Net, I decided to switch to REALbasic. REALbasic is very user friendly cross-platform language and allows one to create applications for Windows, Mac and Linux. ParkView has already been re-written in REALbasic and I am currently writing ParkMapper. ParkControl will follow. Although the exe's written in RB tend to be larger, they do not suffer from dependency issues. I am currently also dappling in HTML, Javascript and PHP.
